| Problem with Microsoft Word under Sandboxie 3.32 |

Hi.
I only installed Sandboxie yesterday and am using for the first time. I have the same problem using v.3.40 with Word 2003 on WinXP Sp3. I have Firefox 3.0.15 sandboxed. When I click on a webpage hyperlink to a doc file, a version of Word opens, which is also sandboxed (I've not touched the settings - 'boxie just does it). When I try to close the sandboxed version of Word when I'm done, I also get: "Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error. (C:\Documents and Settings\ ... \Normal.dot)" I understand the logic of why Word would open in the sandbox, but the error message on closing is a real pain. Can someone point me towards a fix, please, without having to install an older version (as suggested above)? I've had a search of the forum but this thread is the only one I've found in the time available which is specifically about this issue. Many thanks. Kif |

Thanks Buster.
I had searched under "normal.dot" so it didn't pick up the "normal.dotm" article. I went to the page you kindly linked, and inserted the code where instructed. When I now try to close Word in the sandbox, I get this: "The file normal.dot already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?" Yes/No/Cancel. If I click "No" I get a "Save As" dialogue box. If I click "Cancel" (or cancel the "Save As" box above) I get: "Changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal.dot. Do you want to save these changes?" There's also a 'Show Help' option with this message, and this suggests I turn off the Options > Save > Prompt to Save Template option in Word. But it's already off. If I click "Yes", Word shuts down, but when you try to close it again later when it's in the sandbox the "The file normal.dot already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?" message comes back. So changing the normal.dot file doesn't make any difference either (unless the change to the normal.dot file is buried somewhere in the sandbox itself, which would be a pig to try and find). So that piece of code just seems to replace one problem with another. Unfortunately I need to access several online Word docs every day, but not have Word open all the time. I'm therefore going to have this problem cropping up many times a day. Needless to say, I don't have any of these problems when Word and/or Firefox isn't in the sandbox, and it would be a pity to have to uninstall 'Boxie only a day after installing it; on paper it looks like such a great piece of kit. Can I save a copy of the normal.dot file within the sandbox for 'sandboxed Word' to talk to (which seems to be the problem), or stop 'Boxie loading Word in the sandbox? Or is there another solution out there? Many thanks in advance to Buster or anyone else who can help. Kif |

The MS Word template problem, which first arose with v3.32 back in Nov. 2008, now appears to have been fixed with version 3.44.

Thanks for the update! I'm sorry it has taken more than a year to fix.
