Strange interference with Sandboxie program

Windows XP professional; Sandboxie 3.52; Java 6.0.230.5
A new, strange problem. I can open Firefox and run it with no trouble. When I open the Sandboxed Firefox the message below comes up. When I close the message Firefox opens, but then hangs up so that I can’t open different tabs, etc.
I have just updated Sandboxie and also deleted and reinstalled Java, but the problem message comes up every time I try and use Sandboxie.
Here is message:
.. well, can't figure out how to paste a picture so here is the message (in a box)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C:\ Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\deploy\jqs\ff\..\..\..
|C:\Program
Files\Java\jre6\lib\deploy\jqs\ff\..\..\..\..\bin\jqsnotify.exe is not a
valid Win32 application.

OK
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After I choose OK sandboxed firefox appears, but is not responsive to new sites.
Hope this is all clear.

Please check if version 3.53.01 makes a difference here:

http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=9878

If the new version doesn't help, we can discuss this problem in more detail.

First, thanks for the speedy reply.
Second, is there a way to include an image in a post (and if so, how)?
Third, I uninstalled and then installed Sandboxie version 3.53.01 as you suggest ... and problem continues.
Would it help to uninstall the Java program?

Upload the image to a file hosting site, and then post a "Forum" shortcut that they give you to your image, in your message here.
Some sites:
ImageShack
PostImage
TinyPic
I use a free account at:
Imagefra.me

After including the link in your message, use the "Preview" button at the bottom of your message to see how it looks.
Some links to images are thumbnails, but I usually use a link to the full size image.

(I've reformatted your error message, a bit)
The first part of the error message points to the location of the 2 Firefox extensions for java:
Java Console
Java Quick Starter
in the files at:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\deploy\jqs\ff
.. folder: chrome
.. file: chrome.manifest
.. file: install.rdf
Do those extension show in Firefox's Tools > Add-ons > Extensions when not sandboxed?

I suspect that the next part, about jqsnotify.exe not being a valid Win32 application, may be the reason for your problem.
Your install seems to expect the jqsnotify.exe file to be in a sub-folder underneath the one containing the Firefox extension files.
Maybe (or maybe not) that file is there for you - but it's not there for me:
Quote:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\deploy\jqs\ff\..\..\..\..\bin\jqsnotify.exe
There's no such path in my java install.

The path to jqsnotify.exe for my newly installed java6U23 is:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqsnotify.exe

I don't know why your reinstall of java would place the jqsnotify.exe file in a path that's different from mine.
Did you do your uninstall from Add/Remove programs?
If so, I would make sure that the uninstall deleted the:
C:\Program Files\Java
folder, before reinstalling.
Also, make sure to start with an empty sandbox if you uninstall/install java again, before sandboxing Firefox.

I just tested java and it reports OK, while sandboxed (now using Sandboxie v3.53.01)

walt9817 are you sure this issue has to do with Sandboxie? If you use Firefox outside Sandboxie and go to Java sites, all is well?

Also, please try to create a new sandbox in Sandboxie Control. Keep the default sandbox settings as they are, and run your Firefox in this new sandbox. Do you still see the same problem in the new sandbox?

I again uninstalled Java and problem was solved. I have reinstalled Sandboxie and am now able to activate Firefox in the Sandbox, but for some reason it is now hanging up once it's active. I will try and do as you suggest and create a new sandbox and run Firefox in that. Not sure what I'm doing here, but will give it a try.

I have reinstalled Java and problem with Java seems fixed.

Sorry to be such a problem, but even with a new sandbox the problem is that it opens, I get my home page, I can open my gmail, and then the progrm is frozen. "Not responding" is the message at the top of the page.
This happens in both the default and the new sandbox.
And, as you can tell, my unsandboxed Firefox works fine.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Sandboxie as you suggested and I cannot understand why the program is not responding correctly now.

Also, when I right click I.E. and choose to run "sandboxed" nothing happens.

Where do I go now?

You can try posting a Resource Access Monitor log for running your Firefox in the sandbox. Perhaps this will show which other programs and DLLs are loading into your sandbox, and possibly conflicting with Sandboxie.

Step by step instructions here:

Suddenly, when I click on the sandbox icon in the system tray and choose either "default" or "walt" (2nd sandbox), and "run web browser" the little red dots appear for a moment, and then they disappear leaving the plain yellow icon and no browser opens.
Running the Resource Access Monitor gives a totally blank box.

Trying to run another browser in the sandboxed mode also gives no results.

Should I uninstall Sandboxie and start over?

Being an impatient 83 year old, I went and deleted Sandboxie, reomoved traces of it in the registry and reinstalled it.
Got the following message:
SBIE2303 Could not hook NtMapViewOfSection (33, 1382)
Which, when I looked it up indicated there was a conflict with a 3rd party.
I then ran the Resource Access Monitor and got the following:

I see in your log,

WinPatrol
I Hate This Key Deluxe
TrayIt 4
TotalRecorder

I know of WinPatrol but don't recognize the others. Do you recognize all these programs?

Also you have a system DLL that I don't recognize:

c:\windows\system32\guard32.dll

Can you check the properties of the file to see which company produced it?

1. I do recognize all the programs you mention. They have been active in the past when Sandboxie was working.

2. Guard32.dll is part of my firewall .. Comodo. You can read about it below.

3. Using an idea of yours from the past I have reinstalled SB as Sbie, but same problem is occurring.

4. I have the resource access monitor saved as a word doc. (easier to read).

5. Here is the Guard32.dll info from Google:

guard32.dll - Is guard32.dll spyware, adware, or a virus?
what is guard32.dll?
Purpose of guard32.dll:

What is the guard32.dll location, where is it stored on my computer?
This file will be found at C:\WINDOWS\system32\guard32.dll

Note on file and folder locations: Remember that although many files are always in default file locations, some files can easily be moved to different locations or change names like many spyware, adware, or popup programs do. If you suspect you have spyware or adware, check to see if you see a similiar names stored elsewhere. It always helps to check your tasklist also to see what is currently running on your computer. You can always view the tasklist on your computer by pressing ctrl-alt-del to view your "task manager", and then click the "processes" tab. This will show you all tasks running on your computer. Dll files will NOT show on your computer tasklist, as dll files are actually part of other processes. You may see similiar program names running if spyware or adware is on your computer, for example, guard32.dll may be slightly misspelled to keep you from finding it, or spyware and adware may be named very similiar to a system file. Make sure always check the location of tasks or processes if you are concerned. guard32.dll can also be used by other programs or software, as there is no standard on software program names what companies choose.

# Is guard32.dll spyware?
No.

# Is this considered adware or popup related?
No.

6. Here is a copy of the word document showing the recent resource access monitor:
