Sandboxie 3.55.03
Windows 7 64bit

Hello,
I can not use hardware aceleration in Firefox 4. It doesn't work. I have Sandboxie 3.55.03 but with version 3.54 works without problems (I think)

Also, I am not able to run Media player Classic Home Cinema 1.5.0.2827 sandboxed.

Regards.

Is there a specific acceleration test that FF 4 is failing when sandboxed? I'm also using Sandboxie 3.55.03, Windows 7 x64, and FF 4, and hardware acceleration happens to work for me.

To provide us some more information, can you go to about:support in Firefox and then post here on the forum the contents of the Graphics section? Do this unsandboxed first, and then again sandboxed, in a new sandbox with default settings.

I use this exact version sandboxed, with hardware acceleration (DXVA) enabled, without problems. Can you run MPC itself, without opening a file, or does it refuse to open only certain types of files? Are there any error messages?

Hi Mike and everybody, first my apologies because it is very difficult for me to explain something technical in another language. With the help of
google translator I hope that is well understood. Embarassed

Yes, in this test http://demos.hacks.mozilla.org/openweb/HWACCEL/
with hardware aceleration enabled in Firefox 4 I have 15fps and without sandboxie installed +60fps. With sandboxie 3.54
seems to work (but only sandboxed, unsanboxed is 15fps, yes, sandboxed is better)

FF4 without Sandboxie installed on the PC. --------> +60fps
Sandboxie 3.55.03 --->FF4 with Sandboxie installed (sandboxed or unsandboxed) ----> 15fps

FF4 in a new sandbox with default settings:

Ok, the Graphics section of your about:support is exactly the same when sandboxed and unsandboxed. I think the main problem here is that your graphics driver is blacklisted:

For more details, and also instructions on force-enabling graphics acceleration, see the MozillaWiki blocklist.

One explanation for this is that Sandboxie 3.55.02 improved functionality for querying installed devices from the hardware manager. So perhaps gpu acceleration worked sandboxed in 3.54 because Firefox didn't accurately detect what gpu/drivers you were using.

Does MPC run in a new sandbox with default settings, without opening any file? And just to confirm, MPC still runs fine outside the sandbox?

It might be helpful if you can quote any error messages that appear when MPC crashes, or provide any relevant details from your event log.

Mike,
Hardware aceleration works great now following these steps in (MozillaWiki blocklist) about:config

webgl.force-enabled=true
layers.acceleration.force-enabled=true
gfx.direct2d.force-enabled=true

Thank you very much for your help Smile

MPC HC runs fine outside the sandbox. Here is the event log when sandboxed:

Ah, I see now that you're using MPC-HC 64-bit, while I was using 32-bit. I just tried unsandboxed installs of MPC-HC 1.5.0.2827 64-bit as well as 1.5.1.2903 64-bit, but unfortunately I get the same results as you: MPC immediately crashes when run sandboxed.

The easy way out is probably to use MPC-HC 32-bit. If you prefer the 64-bit version, here are some ideas:
    1) Try the newer MPC-HC 1.5.1.2903 64-bit.
    2) If, after installing, MPC tells you "The latest DirectX runtime is not installed!", try installing the DirectX Runtimes outside the sandbox. (I got this message but didn't want to install the runtimes, since my system otherwise works fine.)
    3) If MPC still crashes, report back and maybe the developer, tzuk, can take a look.

Thank you very much again, Mike

Kind regards Smile
