Sandboxie version: 3.56

Windows OS: Windows XP SP3

Microsoft Office 2007

All the above are 32 bit.

This problem is only happening with MS Excel not with any other applications.
There are two downloaded excel files named "Invoice ANCO.xls" and
"Packing List.xls". Now suppose if I open "Invoice ANCO" it will open as
[#]Microsoft Excel - Invoice ANCO.xls[#]. Now if I click on the other file "Packing List"
it will open as [#]Packing List.xls[#] however one more file will open named
[#]Invoice ANCO.xls[#]. What's going on?? Is it a bug?

Am sure I dont have any virus on my comp.

Please help

You're quoting specific file names. Does the problem just with these two specific Excel files? Or with any two Excel files that you open?

I remember a thread a little while ago, I think involving Chrome, where someone was opening websites and they kept opening in a new instance of Chrome instead of in the existing instance of Chrome. If I remember correctly, I think it had something to do with the fact that when the user was opening these new websites sandboxed, it couldn't see that there was an instance of Chrome already running, hence it was creating new instances.

Perhaps that's similar to what's happening here? I'm not sure if this is how Excel works or not, but maybe what happens is that when you open the first file "Invoice ANCO.xls", it is stored in "queue". Well when you open the second file "Packing List.xls", MS Excel 2007 can't see that "Invoice ANCO.xls" is already open, so therefore Excel not only opens the second file you just opened (Packing List.xls) but it also opens the file that is "in queue", the "Invoice ANCO.xls" file.
That's just my guess, I have no idea if it is correct though. Laughing

Tzuk, the problem is occurring with all excel files even the new ones
that am creating.

One more thing that I noticed is suppose if
there's a file named Book1.xlsx and I save and close it am being
prompted to immediate recover two files the first one being Book1.xlsx and the
other is a random 8 character word consisting of alphabets and
numerals. Here's the link of the immediate recovery box to get a clear
picture:

This problem is only limited to MS Excel 2007 and not any other application.

Tzuk, I'll try reinstalling Office 2007 and SB 3.56
and will let you know if I face the same problem again.

SnDPhoenix, thanks for helping buddy Smile

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't see the same problem after reinstalling, so I'm not sure why you want to bother with it.

It has something to do with manipulating the title/label on the taskbar as more windows open. Excel initially says Microsoft Excel on the taskbar and when you open more document windows, the label changes to the show file names and no longer says Microsoft Excel. Word behaves differently, being more consistent with what it shows on the taskbar. PowerPoint behaves like Excel in this respect and not like Word.

I put in a workaround to allow Excel and PowerPoint to make these changes on the taskbar, so this problem should be fixed in version 3.57.01.

Also I took care of the point you raised about Immediate Recovery by always excluding files without a file type, those are generally temporary files anyway.

I'm not exactly sure, I'm not completely decided yet on how much new stuff I want to put into the first version 3.57.01.

I guess Microsoft decided for me, they released an update that is a bit problematic so I am releasing version 3.57.01 primarily to deal with that.
