When Windows 7 first appeared, the version check was not so strict, and people could install Sandboxie on Windows 7.
If you think that just worked, you're wrong. What it did was just crash their system and force them to waste time dealing with it. Removing the version check is not going to make Sandboxie work on Windows 8, it's just going to crash your Windows 8 install. When they release a proper Release Candidate with a frozen kernel, then I will look into it. But I won't look into it as long as the kernel is still in development and is a moving target. |

I want to correct my 1st post:
1) Windows 8 Release Preview will be officially released 1st of June (but .iso has already leaked). 2) Windows 8 kernel version is 6.2. I understand your point of view. You're right, I don't doubt.
Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Sandboxie works on Windows 7 now but here is no way to install it on Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Too much changes in kernel between those Windows versions etc. Ok, nothing weird. When Windows 8 come out you'll make Sandboxie compatible but when I install few builds above RC that don't have almost any changes Sandboxie block me again. That's sad. Same for RTM -> if RTM will work and I install any post-RTM build = Sandboxie error... PS. Windows 8 sucks, really... Windows 7 is much more user-friendly on PCs. |

I've been working on Windows 8 compatibility this past week. Haven't looked into the Metro aspect at all yet, I'm still trying to get the old stuff working well before I look into new stuff. Most of the work is simple but there are some challenging changes here and there, so I have to give a careful estimate that it would take another couple of weeks before I can show anything.

I'm sorry man but I'm afraid I won't help you with beta testing under Windows 8. This is bad jocke not OS. I've been using it over one year but now I know I won't use it any longer (at least not at home). It was not bad as long as it was similar to 7...
Cheers and good luck man buuuuuuu190 |

Another update. This week I finished working on full compatibility with the 32-bit edition of Windows 8. At least as far as my preliminary tests go, which only involve running a few types of programs. Hopefully 64-bit compatibility will be no more than adjusting a few numbers between the 32-bit and 64-bit builds of Windows. If that's the case then I hope I'll be able to offer Sandboxie for Windows 8 next week. No promises though.
As for Metro, as I mentioned in another post, at this time I don't have any plans to support this new environment. |

Hello. In the beta section I found out that latest betas should work on Windows 8.
But I can't get it working. I'm using Windows 8 CP x32, installation went fine but after that Sandboxie error log says this: SBIE1105 Unknown operating system version: 6.2 SBIE1103 Sandboxie driver (SbieDrv) version 3.81.03 failed to start SBIE9153 Cannot start driver (SbieDrv) SBIE1102 Sandboxie driver (SbieDrv) unloading SBIE1105 Unknown operating system version: 6.2 SBIE1103 Sandboxie driver (SbieDrv) version 3.81.03 failed to start SBIE9153 Cannot start driver (SbieDrv) SBIE1102 Sandboxie driver (SbieDrv) unloading SBIE1105 Unknown operating system version: 6.2 SBIE1103 Sandboxie driver (SbieDrv) version 3.81.03 failed to start SBIE9153 Cannot start driver (SbieDrv) SBIE1102 Sandboxie driver (SbieDrv) unloading Any solution to this? UAC turned off completely (and I mean COMPLETELY, can't even run metro apps with UAC turned off Thanks |

If that's a Metro version then no, it won't work. |

Hello.
I have a question regarding Windows 8. There will be any difference between win7/win8 in security when it comes to sandbox? Win7 sanbox enviroment is pretty secure, I was wondering how this is going to change compare to win8. I realy hope when win8 os will mature in time you're going to add full Metro support. I'm ready to switch to win8, but I'm not going to hide if SB is/will be less secure that will keep me to stay much longer on win7. Great program! |

yea i was wondering the same thing because i figure they probably have changed the windows kernel to increase security or somthing like that.so i was not sure of there ever being a working version of sandboxie for windows 8.i hope there will be a working version for windows 8.

At this time, Sandboxie on 64-bit Windows 8 can offer fewer protection methods than Sandboxie on 64-bit Windows 7. I commented about that in another topic:
http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=13211 This regression in functionality is not related to any security enhancements of the Windows kernel, which seem to me to be largely focused on adding a "no rights" execution environment for Metro apps. * * * I probably won't be adding support for Metro because I don't think it is needed. Similar to a smartphone, apps are already highly restricted, and are isolated in their own installation folder. I don't think that Sandboxie can add much on top of what a smartphone-like environment such as Metro already offers. |
