Hi Tzuk

I've had the same problem. Just tried it, and something happened but nothing appeared. I opened task manager and tried it again, and another copy of explorer.exe. Then all of a sudden two things popped up. One a good explorer window, and secondly an error message saying it can't find /e "c:\" Don't know if this helps you know what's going on.

Make sure you are set to the correct sandbox:

Hmm... no point comparing shell extensions for the two users, because now I can't sandbox Windows Explorer under the other account, either. Don't know why, as I restored a backup to get back where I was before trying what Dan suggested, so nothing *should* be any different now than it was when Explorer *could* be sandboxed in the other account before!
I'll play around with things some more in the next couple of days, as time permits.
In the meantime, I'm still open to suggestions...
Thanks!

Rebecca - doesnt seem to really be anything on your end that I can reproduce here. How about pasting your ini file - just in case something is amiss in there. As I see it the program is performing 'backwards' for you. You, the administrator can not do what the user can do - correct?

Actually Mitch that was the case until my suggestion messed things up worse. Now nobody can use explorer (ugh). Mitch's suggestion to copy your .ini file might be a good idea if he thinks so. He knows more about those than I do.

Well all that Rebecca did with that recco was go back to a previous version of Sandboxie, right? I see where the problem became worse after that, but not necessarily due to that. I'm leaning toward a complete uninstall of SandboxIE - make sure Computer is good to go and reinstall the latest build of Sandboxie as a fresh install. Install it from the administrators account.
Even if successful though, it may turn out that both accounts can run Explorer sandboxed - but it surely should not be the way it is now.

ps; but first lets look over the ini file. And Dan is also very up to speed on the ini files and always offers to help.

There are a number of security products but I doubt that is the source of the problem. The AVG Antiware is fairly universal and the others are of the lite-weight variety. One of them may be 'locking' you somehow (the teatimer was a great 1st choice on that). Something went wrong at first that could have actually been anything. So.... we'll see.

Mitch,
I hope this is what you meant by my .ini file. I don't even see anything about Explorer in there, though the only things I edited were the OpenFilePath entries.

Incidentally, Dan, it wasn't your suggestion that messed things up worse, because I created my backup before trying it. So while your idea might not have solved my problem, restoring the backup *should have* put things back as they had been in the first place. Just one of those computer quirk things. I seem to come up against those a lot... Confused

Anyway, so here's my .ini file:

RecoverFolder=D:\R documents
RecoverFolder=E:\G documents
RecoverFolder=D:\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
RecoverFolder=%Desktop%

So I imagine 'R' is you and that should go to your documents. And 'G' is the other user and those documents are on the E:\ drive

Is that what you were going for here?

I think I spotted the problem in the .ini file. To fix please use the GUI, don't use the text editing method. Do the following:

Right Click Sandboxie Tray Icon -> Open Main Window -> Configuration -> Sandbox Settings -> Set File Copy Options

Make sure "Allow full access to Protected Storage" is checked. Check it if needed.

OK, the only questions as to the ini are the recover folders which are not correctly done, and also no ForceProcess=FireFox.exe. Neither of which would cause your Windows Explorer problem. Those ini problems need to be taken care of but that can come later. For now it is only the Windows Explorer situation that we will work on.

Sandboxie needs to be reinstalled. (your ini is here so you dont even need to save that)
1. download from this site the lastest final build if you dont have it
2. go off line and exit sandboxie at the taskbar
3. uninstall sandboxie (it will want a reboot at the end)
4. restart computer - look around through your files that had been saved locations and make sure that all the good things are there and any sandboxie files are gone (sandboxie gives a perfect uninstall - but who knows) - in other words, clean house.
5. reinstall Sandboxie through just the installation prompts - no settings

You should be looking at the control panel - mouse up to the configuration menu and reload configuration (even though you haven't configured anything yet.) If you have a registration key - register through the drop down menu from 'help' - close Sandboxie Control

At this point your Sandboxie.ini is only set for the default Sandboxie Global and the default settings within your default sandbox. (nothing is in your Sandbox folder- it is empty)

Try to enter Windows Explorer sandboxed from both accounts. If unsuccessful - reboot and try again.

Whatever your results - enter the sandboxie control panel and create your settings for FireFox. Only FireFox. At this point (through the GUI), you can only set Firefox as a forced process - yes do that.

What I am going for is to get you back here sandboxed but not in any kind of fancydance way (no E drive - yes ForceProcess=FireFox.exe, no portable)so you can give us the result on your Windows Explorer try.

If you want to, you can wait to do this until you see me or SND or DL are online and post that you are starting and we will wait for you to come back.

Here are some notes for you to consider as to planning your fixes. Upon trying to open Windows Explorer sandboxed - if you are unsuccessful, we've narrowed it down to not being caused by Sandboxie. That does not mean we are not interested in solving your problem. We want everyone that wants the program, to be able to have it. That will focus the problem to your Windows user settings and perhaps registry settings as well. But we will cross that bridge later.

If Windows Explorer does open sandboxed, we've narrowed the problem to the other side of the fence, your settings. And we can address that then.

My suspicion is on the E drive setting, and that being set up when you were completely new and who knows what you did back then. But with this reinstall procedure, all of that will be erased. See ya soon.

Just a quick answer to your previous question, Mitch, before I go ahead and uninstall Sandboxie and do a clean installation of the latest build:

My own "My Documents" folder is located on the D: partition, and has been renamed 'R documents'
Gary's "My Documents" folder is located on the E: partition, and has been renamed 'G Documents'
Both our Firefox profiles, however, are located on the D: drive

Now, off to do my Sandboxie cleanup!

Well, it looks like it's definitely a problem with my system, not with Sandboxie per se.

I uninstalled Sandboxie 3.01 and rebooted. Didn't find any leftover folders in C:\Program Files.
Ran RegSeeker and had it delete 25 entries in the registry containing the word Sandboxie.
Installed Sandboxie 3.01 build 21 - when it came to the driver part of the installation, I turned off AVG antivirus and antispyware, as well as TeaTimer; reactivated them all once the installation was complete.
Tried running Windows Explorer sandboxed under both accounts - no go. Both Sandboxie Control windows showed the 'usual' under Process Name:

explorer.exe
SandboxieRpcSs.exe
SandboxieDcomLaunch.exe

but nothing further happened after that.

I rebooted, tried running Explorer sandboxed under both accounts again. Still no luck with either, but now the Sandboxie Control window only shows the above 3 entries for a few seconds, then it changes to:

No processes are sandboxed at this time

The only thing I've done with my .ini file so far is to set Firefox as a forced process.

Next? Smile
