Help running Sandboxie with Keyscrambler 2 and Opera

I wonder could anyone please give me a few pointers on how to run Opera (forced) (sandboxed) with keyscrambler 2.
Opera is my default browser but I also use Internet Explorer 6.0 and Portable Firefox sometimes.
When I tried keyscrambler with Sandboxed Opera, Keyscrambler seemed to be encrypting (according to it's own popup pink box) but the tray icon stays yellow
KeyScrambler tray icon is yellow and it says "KeyScrambler is Inactive"

thanks

I don't use Opera, but the fix for KeyScrambler works just fine with my sandboxed browser and email clients (Firefox and Thunderbird) .
For each of your sandboxes:
Sandbox Settings | Resource Access | File Access | Full Access
Leave the box that says "The list above applies to" alone - so that 'All Programs' shows.

Then click EDIT, and put in the window that opens:
\Device\NamedPipe\KSTIPipe*

Then click OK a couple of times.
This fix has been around for quite a while, and it still works with the latest KeyScrambler versions, although it was never added to the list of Known Conflicts.

Paddty, if Guest10's suggestion doesn't work, then I suggest you use the Resource Access Monitor.

Thanks tzuk and Guest10

Guest10, I tried your fix and it does seem to make a difference although the tray icon didn't always change colour immediately on entering the "protected" program but that may just be a glitch in keyscrambler.
I am new to Keyscrambler so it might just be something that I do not understand about it's operation.

tzuk, thanks for your advice and your consistant help given on this forum.

Tzuk, I forgot to say that when this was happening a small warning came up...something about blocking a false keyboard
I'll re-install Keyscrambler later today and use the resource access monitor and post results.

For me, the tray icon changes from yellow to green just as the protected program's window appears, or slightly before then. Just make sure you don't have KS turned-off. A couple of times I have found it turned off, and didn't know why: right click the KS tray icon, and make sure it shows 'KeyScrambler On'.
Also, I don't know if there was a previous version of KS that installed into your browsers as an add-on, as was the case with Firefox, but if so then make sure to uninstall that add-on.

No problem, my pleasure.

As KeyScrambler is a keyboard-oriented tool, it may be using simulated keystrokes to communicate between its various components, with one component knowing that the other component is going to see the "special keystrokes" and react to them.

If this becomes a nuisance, you can use Sandboxie Settings -> Low Level Access to stop Sandboxie from meddling with simulated keyboard events and possibly preventing KeyScrambler from working correctly.

I wanted to try Keyscrambler by installing it sandboxed but the KeyScrambler installation required a restart for it to complete. Does this mean that I cannot install Keyscrambler within a sandbox??

If so, presumably I have to install KeyScrambler outside the sandbox and then run explorer with the Keyscrambler Add-on inside a sandbox??

Why is this "fix" required - what stops KeyScrambler working in the sandbox??

What does the instruction "\Device\NamedPipe\KSTIPipe*" actually do??

I use KeyScrambler Pro v2, and it installs a Browser Helper Object (CKeyScramblerBHO Object) for use with Internet Explorer, and keyscrambler.sys (driver) for use with - I guess - everything else. The Pro version works with a lot of different browsers, and I have no idea what gets installed for the browsers that I don't have installed on my computer.

So I would say that no, you can't get it to work by installing it in a sandbox, because of the driver install.

As far as the resource that is needed to get it to work, tzuk figured that out quite a while ago using the Sandboxie Trace function with an earlier version of KeyScrambler. These days, there's a Resource Access Monitor that might be used to see what resource sandboxie is blocking, but luckily the same setting still works with KS v2.
(Maybe that's because for a short time I was a beta tester for KS Preview v1.9, an early version of v2, and I let them know that it was important to keep the application working with Sandboxie's setting. Laughing ) My beta testing came to an early end, though, when half of my computer's memory sticks decided to fail and then I had to do a hard drive restore. I don't think my hardware problem was related to KS!

As a KeyScrambler user of some duration I would be very grateful for your views/experience of using KeyScrambler. Any thoughts/comments would be much appreciated (I am only considering KeyScrambler Personal - the free version).

On a separate note I would still like to know from someone what the following recommended instuction does:

For each of your sandboxes:
Sandbox Settings | Resource Access | File Access | Full Access
Leave the box that says "The list above applies to" alone - so that 'All Programs' shows.

Then click EDIT, and put in the window that opens:
\Device\NamedPipe\KSTIPipe*

Why is this instruction required??

The default exclusion in version 3.31 is now KSTIPipe* (including the star).
