Sandboxed IE & Virtual PDF Printer problem

hello,

since we've deployed sandboxie, printing to pdf files from (sandboxed) internet explorer is no longer possible.
we're running a virtual printer app for pdf file creation (eDocPrinterPDFPro from iteksoft.com).

the pdf-files will have 0-byte, even though the destination path is defined as OpenFilePath.

seems like the eDocPrinter itself gets stuck inside the sandbox somehow while preparing the pdf.
i can even see a preview of the pdf that looks fine, but it doesn't make it through to the output file.

i've already played around with the Sandboxie Trace and defined all kinds of OpenPipePath and OpenIPCPath exceptions.
i managed to get a "clean" debug log without any resource denials but that still didn't fix the problem.

any help greatly appreciated!
thanks and regards,
Michael

Assuming that I can download eDocPrinter and test it myself,
then I will check it out and let you know.

tzuk, thank you very much for taking this on;
would be so great to get this working,
as i actually had to take some users off from sandboxie protection because of the issue.

In the meantime (or as a fulltime alternative), perhaps the free PDFCreator
( http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ )
may be an option?

(Not affiliated, just know it works well with SB.)

Cheers,

Maybe the openfilepath was set to only apply to the browser and maybe it needs to apply to the pdf reader as well? Confused

dynarx, thank you for the tip regarding PDFCreator, i'll check it out!

MitchE323, unfortunately not - our OpenFilePath entries are set to apply to all programs;
but thanks for the suggestion!

have a nice weekend!

I was able to find the exclusions necessary to fix this problem.
You will need to use a newer version of Sandboxie, which I will make available tomorrow.

Please try version 3.31.04 and let me know if it resolves the problem.

In addition to some changes in 3.31.04, you will also need to apply a couple of minor exclusions. Please see:

Hello,

I've just become a SB user over the weekend. Like others, I've had issues with printing to virtual PDF, and have read with interest the various posts, looking for a solution. I have no problem printing to my Epson printer.

I've installed 331-08, and although it gives a different error message with Acrobat 8 Pro than v.3.30.0.0 (and actually starts Acrobat), it still will not print (stating that Acrobat needs to be activated). Even though it will not print, still, Acrobat activation should NOT be needed to simply print to PDF.

Also, Nitro PDF Pro will not print to PDF (nothing happens)

PDFCreator works fine (but it's not an accurate PDF printer, like Nitro or Adobe).

If it helps, here's my ini:

Re: Nitro PDF 5. I looked into this some time ago but the solution/workaround was cumbersome.

I gave it another look today and had more luck identifying the configuration settings in Sandboxie that are necessary to make Nitro PDF 5 work. Please see:

I was testing with Nitro PDF version 5.4.1.7. Which version do you have? I'm asking because a different version may have a different window class name resource name than the {FAF5BE9E-BAFF-47BF-BA47-1A4B15185066} that you had to enter.

Alright, could this be a Vista issue? Are you using Windows Vista or XP?
