Hi Tzuk
I reported the same problem as Huukiller in this thread.. You suggested to him that he tries Internet Explorer. I just tried it to download Sandboxie v35-21. It downloads OK BUT Immediate recovery DOES NOT WORK. Qick recovery does. Yes I have got immediate recovery ticked in the settings, and no there are no exceptions apart from those automatically applied by the program. So now Opera 10 beta and IE7 does not work with the Immediate Recovery. All prior Sandboxie versions ie 35-20 and below worked OK Hope this helps Terry |

Hi Tzuk (Again)
Reference my previous post and Huukillers. Thought I would try Firefox with immediate recovery. Just downloaded Sandboxie v35-21 and Immediate recovery worked. So why does Opera 10 and IE7 not work? Terry |

I don't know to answer that question with any certainty yet. What happens when you close the sandboxd Opera 10 or IE 7 after saving a Web page -- do you then get the missing immediate recovery popups?
Also please try version 3.35.22 to see if anything has gotten better. |

Hi Tzuk
Thanks for your involvement. 1) Version 22 makes no difference. What I notice in version 21 & 22 in Opera (my primary browser) is the absence of a pop up bubble saying the "transfer is complete" (Download) this happens in v 20 & prior just before or at the same time as when the the immediate recovery dialogue box pops up. 2) I was puzzled about your following comment: "What happens when you close the sandboxd Opera 10 or IE 7 after saving a Web page -- do you then get the missing immediate recovery popups?" Normally, the immediate recovery dialogue box pops up when you have downloaded something (all browsers) you don't need to close the browser or tab etc. Its the act of finishing the download that causes the dalogue box to pop up. When you close the browser its is the quick recovery dialogue box that pops up. This works OK still in all versions. As requested I saved a web page, nothing happened in V22, no IR dialogue box, no pop up bubble saying "transfer complete". If you shut the browser down the the QUICK RECOVERY box pops up I hope this helps clarify what I mean |

I've revised a few minor things in Immediate Recovery in version 3.35.23. Please let me know if it makes a difference.

Hi Tzuk
Just tried version 35-23. Basically same as before. Works on Firefox BUT does not work on IE7 or Opera Preview10. Just before I wrote this, I re-installed version 35-20 which works fine with all three browsers Hope this helps Terry |

How about this. In version 3.35.23, go to Sandbox Settings > Applications > Miscellaneous.
Select and highlight "Default exclunsio for immediate recovery" Click Remove Click OK Run a new sandboxed instance of your Web browser and download something. Does you get Immediate Recovery pop up boxes now? |

I don't know what to tell you two.
Like I said, the change to Immediate Recovery is, that it no longer sends the notifications/popups as soon as a file is created with contents. Instead, it waits for the sandboxed program to release all "locks" on the file. Thus if you don't get Immediate Recovery notifications, it might mean that the sandboxed program has not released its hold on the file, for some reason. You can try to use Process Explorer from Microsoft to confirm this assumption. Use the Find menu > Find Handle or DLL command. huukiller: when you download the files from orkut, your sandboxed browser should be creating files that have orkut in the name. So use Process Explorer to scan for "orkut" (no quotes) and tell me what you get. TerryWood: For you I understand the probem occurs with every download file, so try to download something, and use Process Explorer to scan for the name (or partial name) of the file you are downloading. I'll be looking forward to hear your results. |

Hi Tzuk
I suppose you could describe me as technologically challenged, particularly when you ask me to do something as apparently simple as in your previous post, yet not only do I find it difficult nay near impossible. So to counterattack, (I have nothing left to try) If it (Sandboxie) worked fine upto version 35-20 why change it? The only thing I did was to install version 35-21 and instead of treading new frontiers I find myself trying to defend what I had but have now lost. Yet I go back to version 20 and everything is fine. I am NOT being negative (maybe appearing so) but you can't move forward if you leave a hole. I tried downloading version 24 with version 24 installed and using process explorer to do as you suggested. But clearly my world is different to yours. Sorry I tried and failed. Terry |

To address the point you raise: There were problem reports about Immediate Recovery not working well with Google Chrome and Microsoft Office products. That's because those software were still holding the files in use even after populating them with contents. Thus Immediate Recory notificaions would pop up while the files were not actually recoverable yet. Thus I had to change it in the way I described above.
I don't know how many people keep up with the latest betas but I'm sure it's more than you and huukiller, so obviously this change is working well for most people. It does for me. Now if we could just figure out the problem in your situations then I hope to be able to address it. In any case, this change was necessary and I'm afraid I won't be taking it back. But again, I am certainly willing to fix any problems with it. Now on to more practical things. If you can tell me you difficulties with Process Explorer, perhaps I can advise how to resolve them. |
