It was OA version 4 beta 10.

If you say Sandboxie version 3.40 was not causing slowdowns with OA, and I believe the version you first tested was 3.41.03, then would you mind going through eariler beta versions to see when the problem started? It might help me figure out where to look.

Please try:

http://www.sandboxie.com/SandboxieInstall-341-01.exe
http://www.sandboxie.com/SandboxieInstall-341-02.exe
http://www.sandboxie.com/SandboxieInstall-341-03.exe

1st - 4.0.0.7 is BETA! you cant expect proper working - install .10 final
2nd - OA v4 is slower than v3
3rd - deactivate aČ and OA support in SB
4th - put sb-folder as exclusion in OA - and configure SB that way it offers most security
5th - aČ is a good program - but it slows down too
the combo of aČ and oa is more slow that eset and OA or eset and outpost.
6th - check the oa forum for specific support (or RTM)

Tzuk:
I upgrade installed .1/.2/.3, and back to .5- All versions were equally as SLOW!

I then thought I'd give Brummelchen's suggestions a try, and he may have hit on something that may point you in the right direction?! Question

Brummelchen (THANKS!)-
1st - 4.0.0.7 is BETA! you cant expect proper working - install .10 final
- I've been on OA .10 for several days, and if anything it's slower/buggier than .7.
2nd - OA v4 is slower than v3
- YUP!

3rd - deactivate aČ and OA support in SB
- now here's the kicker!?- sbie folder Exclusion from OA. Then A2 & OA support removed from Software Compat.(no * in Security), and reboot .
Sbie now opens in 4sec, but A2 does NOT protect me from my bad web test page http://www.vitacost.com/ (I already figured it wouldn't!) Rolling Eyes

4th - put sb-folder as exclusion in OA - and configure SB that way it offers most security
- I auto-delete sandbox contents on closing in case malware/keylogger installed!
5th - aČ is a good program - but it slows down too
the combo of aČ and oa is more slow that eset and OA or eset and outpost.
-A2 has a much better detection rate, and at least once a day it blocks bad web pages content/rule!
6th - check the oa forum for specific support (or RTM)
- I've posted several times on OA beta XP.10 forum, and submitted report/debug logs- No reply yet?

Hope this helps?
I can live with .5 partially disabled, and fast! Let me know if you need more testing...?

Re: sbie 3.40?- I never could get 3.40 working!?- Everytime I'd open IE7, it wanted to install PageRank (unresolved post).
I used 3.38, but it was slow/balky at first with OA .7 (trust everything SCW)? Once I opened the same web page in regular IE7, sbie would be fast too?

Scott I'm not sure I understand, are you saying that if I just install OA and A2 then I should be able to reproduce this problem?

Or, am I supposed to configure these products and/or Sandboxie in some way, to reproduce the problem?

@scott - i dropped the latest v3 versions here due to unsolved problesm with games - you can read it in the tallemu-forum.

v4 final is erm was* installed on Win7/32 - dropped again - damn slow it made the system - again.
and the known issue of oaserv with high cpu usage (first timer here with ccleaner, then not again)

for your knowledge - untick aČand OA in the sbie config - if they are outside installed - its the best.
installing such software in sandboxie ist strange - coz SB already offers good protection.
coming to the last point - why do you surf on malicious website for purpose?
next question - which other passive protection has your browser that you need to rely
on a2 and/or OA? is your web protection such bad?

example - i can surf without eset and outpost - no fear to get any bad.
malware need to break through the script filter then firefox (99.99% browser, rest maxthon)
so adblock and noscript (for firefox) are best friends - and a limited user - not admin.

i hope you get the idea behind safer surfing without those heavy software.

ok, the sbie-folder is not excluded from eset - your point* - but it was excluded from online armor.
the thought behind that ist, that i use a box with internet - and one without internet.
if i dont want the software get out - i cant break sandboxie.
and im not silly enough to try unknown malicious software in sandboxie coz in dont know
if it can break sbie (read the forum about). so at least i try that in a virtual machine
which is complete off the host system.

btw i use the latest final, not the actual beta (no time and not really interessted).
in general i use sandboxie for what it was made at least - i enjoy some really
important and requested features - but nothing more.
(tsuk know that, we had words about it last days Wink)

back to online armor again - i dont know your settings but some are really important
for a smooth working. some rules i predefine - i know where and what. and i'm not
really a friend of given rules for non-standard software from outside.

if you have a specific issue with oa you should ask tallemu eg why it makes the system slow.
i had that experience and changed back to outpost. on win7 i try LooknStop now,
very small (3megs only) but no hips - hips can be annoying sometimes.

tsuk - you should be able to do so. but be aware of demo modus - you can only use it once,
after 30 days there is no option to reactivate it on same computer or virtual machine (concerning OA now).

btw scott - the learning mode can help during sbie - turn it on (the support would write that too)

tzuk:
if you just install OA .10/A2/sbie .05 (OA/A2 recognized on install) with default options , you should hopefully get the slowdown?

Other OA .10 users are also having issues trying to run OA RunSafer in sbie (mostly firefox?), and you might take a look at that too?

I am a long time user of CCleaner, and like it's advanced cookie handling features.
It used to speed up my system/defrag, but in the last year it no longer does so?
Q?- What issues did you have with CCleaner? Question

Testing to verify that my A2 is protecting me in sbie!-
I open OE6 email attachments in sbie ONLY!
Recently I Fw:'d an email/attachment that had a virus, and A2 did not detect it! Embarassed
A2/OA NOT being able to scan in sbie is a deal breaker for me!-
If they can't get this working soon!- I'm going to try a different FW!-
I'd might give OA final release a try, and see if A2/sbie .05 works better?
I feel that it is important to help OA/sbie come up with a fix!- Part of the solution, instead of part of the problem (tsuk!)!

PC Tools free FW gets 99% test results on Matousec.com, but not being able to edit rules isn't good(user reviews)?

IE7 is not that secure, and IE8 was SLOW on my computer! I also like OE6 email!
I tried Firefox, but their bookmark/cookie handling are not as user friendly as IE7!
So the answer is YES, my web protection is such bad!

I also had/have issues with OA/sbie!-
by becoming an OA/sbie beta tester, I can hopefully help them come up with solutions!

Learning Mode allowed sbie .05 to open in 1.5min instead, of 2min.
One problem with OA Learning Mode!- much of it's protection is disabled, and it allows most ALL!
Mike Nash & I had a RESPECTFUL discussion about that!

Sorry, I don't understand the recent comment. None of it. The problem should be resolved with version 3.41.07, please confirm this. Make sure to enable OA and A2 compatibility in Sandboxie.

Question Do you want me to pre-disable A2's Background File... Guard, and then as brummelchen suggested- enable OA/A2 "after" a reboot?

BTW- OA just came out with a new beta 4.0.0.11(no mention of A2/sbie in changelog?), and I need to do a clean install of OA somewhere in the mix ("All" OA versions interfere with my A2 auto-updates on startup!?).
Question Do you have any suggestions on an install order?

I don't want you to disable anything...

Recall that I've followed your advice here: I installed Online Armor, all was still well. Then I installed a2, and immediately I had sandboxed programs slowing down as you described.

I tweaked the Online Armor settings in Sandboxie to account for more resources in this new version of Online Armor. That seemed to have done the trick.

Now I'm asking you, go back to the way you were doing stuff when you originally noticed the slow down problem. Install Sandboxie version 3.41.07. Just make sure you have the right settings in Software Compatibility in Sandboxie. And check if the slowdown is gone.

About the order of installation, I don't think it matters.

I didn't do much differently this time?-
1. When installing OA's new beta 4.0.0.11, I didn't disable A2's Background Guard, until OA asked me to(?).

Very Happy YUP, good work! Now you can mark this post as Resolved, and users can maybe have a looksee! Wink
A2 blocked my bad test page www.vitacost.com, and successfully created a rule!

LOL!- It's not my nature as a software tech, not to try different methods... when things aren't working!? Laughing
~~~~~~~~
All of this may not be necessary, but I'm sticking to it!- Smile
1. This time when installing sbie (OA in Learning Mode!- allows most "everything.../dangerous to stay there too long!"!- Then a restart & Trust all sbie... in OA Programs), and A2 had an Allow this behavior/Ignore... pop-up?-
I answered Allow, instead of Ignore- to all (?).
When I added OE6(sbie iink) to desktop- A2 didn't have a tizzy fit..., & block everything first try.
BTW!- There was one "temporary" slowdown, that freaked me out!- Shocked
The "first time" I opened some web pages..., it took up to 30sec (could be OA/A2 Learning...?)!
i.e. Try OA beta forum, and then a test quote.
The "second time" I opened the same web pages, it was fast! Exclamation
Keep up the GOOD work! Wink
Glad I could help you solve this bug!- Any time!
I feel that's what being a beta tester is all about, and why I do the same thing at OA!
Instead of complaining about bugs, and waiting for some miracle to happen (not!)?-
I try to help the Dev's out, and become part of the solution!
This beta fix you came up with, was QUITE gratifying to me! Very Happy
