Are you implying that Firefox will work correctly when sandboxed, if you do not allow direct access to the bookmarks and history file?
How is an unsandboxed Firefox working? And have you deleted the contents of the sandbox that Firefox uses, so that you are starting with an empty sandbox? |

Hi,
1. Yes. I run Firefox sandboxed successfuly when the Firefox did not have direct access to Firefox bookmark and history database. 2. Unsandboxed Firefox works fine without any problems. 3. Yes. I've deleted the content of the snadbox. I've set the sandbox to be deleted automaticaly when all programs have finished. Dan |

Can I ask you to use a debugger to look into the hanging Firefox process and see what it is doing? If you agree, I will explain what to do with the debugger, it's fairly simple.

Great, I've written a short step-by-step guide how to do that:
http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?HowToUseWinDbg I hope it clearly explains what to do, if not, please let me know where it is lacking. |

Hi,
I installed the debugger and run FF through the debugger. But, it did not load completly. FF got stuck while loading. The debugger did not display the menu the type in the Go command. The following is the output of the debugger. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Microsoft (R) Windows Debugger Version 6.11.0001.404 X86 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. CommandLine: "D:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" Symbol search path is: srv*c:\Windows\Symbols*http://msdl/microsoft.com/download/symbols Executable search path is: ModLoad: 00400000 004df000 firefox.exe ModLoad: 7c950000 7c9fb000 ntdll.dll ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I tried pressing the break button, but it didn't help. WinDBG stated on the statusbar that "Debuggee not connected". FF is still running but cannot be stopped or killed at all. I'm using Sysinternal's Process Explorer and I still cannot kill FF in this state. Only reboot helps. Dan |

Then I understand you ran the debugger under Sandboxie? Perhaps the debugger is affected by the same thing that is causing problems in your Firefox. I suggest you try the attaching method instead, in which you run the debugger outside Sandboxie.

I ran the debugger outside of sandboxie and tried to attach to FF process with no success.
It still did not manage to attach fully to the process. I installed the latest version of SBIE, 3.42, did the procedure, ran the debugger inside and outside of SBIE, got the same result. Dan |

I'm going to look into this related problem here:
http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=6690 Hopefully, by fixing that problem I will also fix this problem for you, and you won't have to keep trying to figure out the debugger. |

Please check if version 3.43.05 resolves this problem.

It help to solve the problem.
After installing the update, I changed the settings of SBIE to allow direct access to Firefox bookmark and history database, and started Firefox. I got a message windowwith several messages and Firefox didn't start. The important message (SBIE1412) stated that '%Tmpl.Firefox%\bookmark' could not be found. I edited the Sandboxie.ini file and added it there. This solved the problem. Thanks, Dan |

After solving the problem I can't run FF unsandboxed.
I choose the Disable forced programs and then start FF and it always starts sandboxed. Dan |

Try setting more time using Sandboxie's menu: File > Disable Forced Programs Change the number of seconds that shows in the window that opens. Sandboxie will remember whatever number of seconds that you use there, and will use that number from then on. |
