you are the man. more progress, but not total solution. the author of this program also told me, that to do the OCR, he changes the ClearType setting off, and then back on to allow him to OCR. in winxp, thats in display settings -> Appearance -> Effects -> Use method for smooth edges of screen fonts

using your * setting in Window access, the program works correctly, while sandboxed, as long as i manually turn off ClearType! so that much is a success.

however, i routinely use ClearType and want to leave it on, and want to allow this program the access to turn it off and then back on for the duration of its scanning. is there a similar resource access that i can allow in sandboxie to allow this program to make those changes?

Regarding the ClearType thing, it should be listed as X (SystemParametersInfo:some number). To disable this protection, enable this setting:

Sandbox Settings > Restrictions > Low-Level Access > Permit programs in this sandbox to change desktop wallpaper and other system parameters
